carbon rims for DH. whats the world comming too! i dont think a couple of hundred grams per wheel wont make that much diffrence!! but i may be wrong as i dont ride dh!
Thoes "couple grams" make a huge difference. In physics this is called "gyroscopic force". The lower the weight of the wheels, the easier it is to stop and accelerate. Not only in DH.
If they hold up it's not a couple of grams. Closest weight wise are stans ztr which are 480g. That's 65g/wheel on the rim. Though most people use rims around 550g which means 125g/wheel. That's a noticable weight if we talk wheels.
Also if you want a light bike you have to make every gram count. I'm not really pro carbon rims right now, belive they need to be prooven but little differances add up. This season I plan to go 16.5kg on full on dh build. Very burly.
spaced-closest weight wise is the enve at 405g for the AM rim, I am all about carbon rims, and the use of carbon in the cycling industry. I can't verify the rim weight, but I have 2 on order, and they are coming UST compatible, hence the companies lack of shipping right now. updating the rims bed, and the logo. These are definitely an option, but look for the price to be somewhere not shy of $700 usd is my bet.
I meant non carbon. Enve are insane price wise so I doubt it's an option for 99.9% of the people. Congrats on the wheels. Hope they are as good as they seem
In reply to the first comment - Most DH specific rims are in the 640-800g per rim mark, 415g for a DH labelled rim is a MASSIVE achievement.
Even switching from a 640g DH rim to a 550g AM rim makes a noticeable difference when accelerating and pre-hopping.
You went a bit crazy with that 800g. Haven't seen an 800g rim in a looong time. I'm sure some tw companies make those but it's a bit silly. 823 is 700g and it's silly strong.
i would like to test one in front ,.. for trials
or would it holp u[p as rear wheel too ? :S
